Jozef Slawinski, 1905-1983, was a Polish-born and Italian-trained mural artist. His favored medium was sgrafitto, a technique involving two or more layers of cement which need to be worked on while still wet. Slawinski extended this technique to four layers of colored cement, creating magnificent results. His
technique has not been duplicated anywhere else in the United States. His richest body of work exists here in the Buffalo Niagara Region.
This tour will stop at Assumption Church, Buffalo State College, Canisius College, the Downtown Central Library and Villa Maria College to view Slawinski’s murals. The tour group will get off the bus at each location to see the artwork up close.
